For Immediate Release – November 2, 2007 Durango, CO – On Sunday, November 18 at 3 p.m. at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, the San Juan Symphony will present a lush and lyrical program, the second in its Song & Dance season, showcasing the glory of American Voices. Both the Durango and Telluride Choral Societies will add their splendid sounds to popular 20th century American favorites in a boisterous program which is sure to delight. Music Director Arthur Post has chosen original, ingenious, unafraid, uniquely American pieces ranging from Copland’s Old American Songs, to Creston’s Concertino for Marimba and Orchestra, to Reigger’s Dance Rhythms, to Bernstein’s Candide and West Side Story. Pennington is principal timpanist with the San Juan Symphony and Music in the Mountains. He has also performed with the Arizona Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Arizona Ballet, and the Phoenix, Ann Arbor, Saginaw, and Tucson Symphonies. The Durango Choral Society, which has drawn singers from the Four Corners area for more than 30 years, is under the direction of Linda Mack, also Professor of Music at Fort Lewis College. Under the artistic direction of Dr. David Lingle, the Telluride Choral Society is celebrating its twelfth season of enriching the cultural experience of singers and audiences in the Telluride Region and beyond through quality choral performances and continuing music education. Maestro Post will give a pre-concert talk as part of the series Wednesdays at 6 – Musically Speaking at the Durango Arts Center at 802 E. Second Avenue in Durango at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14.
